People do anything and everything to keep their bodies in peak condition. Some go to the gym, others need to keep up with appointments at health facilities like Northwest Surgery Center, and a good majority of individuals just have fun and burn a few calories while doing it.

Here are five summer activities that are sure to work up a sweat and keep you in shape.

Swimming

Swimming is one of the best physical activities you can do if you want to get into shape and have a little bit of fun at the same time. When swimming, you need to use several different muscles in your boy just to stay afloat. You can swim as leisurely or as intensely as you want, regardless of if you decide to swim in a pool, a lake, or even the ocean.

White Water Rafting

If you enjoy spending time on the water, just not in it, white water rafting is an excellent summer activity for getting a workout in. For those that have never gone white water rafting before, it’s much more intense than a simple float down a river. You and your party will need to put in some serious elbow grease to make your way through the water.

Hiking

Don’t want to get soaked? Hiking can be a terrific way to burn calories on a beautiful summer day when the sun is shining. You can go hiking on marked trails or off the beaten path, plus you can go about it alone or with a friend. There’s nothing like a walk through the woods with nothing but the sounds of nature to fill the void.

Cycling

When’s the last time you rode a bike? If it’s been a while, it might be time to bust your two-wheeler back out, because it’s a pretty solid way to get a sweat going. Your thighs and calf muscles will be screaming the entire time, but with the wind blowing through your hair as you speed down the road, how can you complain?

Playing Sports

Even if you aren’t going to the big leagues anytime soon, playing sports during the summer can be both entertaining and good for you. You can play anything you want, such as backyard football, soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, frisbee, or just about anything else. If you’ve got kids, get them involved too, and make it a family event.
